A former Shelby County businessman was sentenced Wednesday in federal court for conspiracy to commit health care fraud.
U.S. District Judge Sharon Blackburn sentenced William Lloyd King, 63, to 24 months in prison and two years of supervised release, according to a press statement. King will report to prison March 23.
King, who now lives in New Orleans with his wife, Marie, was a certified public accountant with King & Associates, Inc., a consulting service for skilled nursing facilities in Alabama and other states.
From January 2002 to December 2006, King and his wife caused the facilities to submit cost reports containing false information to Medicare fiscal intermediaries. Marie King was previously sentenced to serve 18 months in prison for her role in the scheme.
The Kings, who stole more than $700,000, have paid $600,000 in restitution to Medicare.
