The Alabama Association of Secondary School Principals has named Oak Mountain Middle School assistant principal Linda Peveler as Alabama’s Assistant Principal of the Year.

Peveler started the High Flight Program, which sends eighth-graders on a field trip to the 4-H Center in Columbiana to learn about avoiding drugs and alcohol, overcoming peer pressure and making positive choices. Since the program began, the school has seen a decrease in discipline problems.

She has been the assistant principal at Oak Mountain Middle since 1997.
