A group of kids at Elvin Hill Elementary have logged 25 miles each since Oct 1.
On Feb 14, they will run in the Kids Mercedes Marathon as TEAM Elvin Hill at Lynn Park. Each student will run the last 1.2 miles of a marathon, cross the finish line and get a medal hung over their neck.
There are always about 5,000 spectators on hand to cheer for the kids as loud speakers announce their names when they cross the finish line.
The kids have learned self–discipline, goal setting and perseverance in addition to getting good exercise. Two guest speakers, Olympic diving gold medalist Jennifer Chandler and meteorologist James Spann, spoke to the kids during a special program. There are 76 kids participating.
