Donald E. “Dusty” Knight, 45, of Nashville, Tenn., passed away Feb. 5, 2009, after a courageous four-year battle with colon cancer.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mrs. Hilda Jones Knight of Jemison, and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Knight of Jemison, and Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Jones of Columbiana.
Survivors include his wife and best friend of 10 years, Dr. Andrea Rice Knight; and sons, Spenser G. Knight and Collier J. Knight; and father, Donald E. Knight, Sr.; and two sisters, Sandy Knight and Sherri Knight Pruett; and two nephews, Nick Hays and Chris Rooks; and one niece, Chloe Pruett.
Dusty grew up in the Birmingham area, graduated from Briarwood Christian High School and from Auburn University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education.
He moved to Nashville in 2000. He started working for AIM Healthcare in the IT Department in 2004, where he enjoyed his job and established extremely close friendships with other fellow Christians.
He served in the Alabama and Tennessee National Guard for 6 years and was deployed to Kuwait in 2003.
He was active duty in the Operation Iraqi Freedom and received many honors.
He was an active member of Christ Presbyterian Church in Nashville, where he was very involved in many aspects of ministry and loved his church family very much.
Dusty was a loving husband, father, son, son-in-law, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and friend who will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
A memorial service was held at Christ Presbyterian Church, Monday, Feb. 9, 2009, at 1 p.m. with visitation prior at 11:30 a.m. The burial was at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home following the service.
The pallbearers were Gordon Rice, Nick Hays, Chris Rooks, Randall Chism, Dyer Matlock and James Anderson. Officiates were Pastor Todd Teller and Pastor Robbie Hendrick.
A memorial and celebration of Dusty’s life will also be held at Bible Baptist Church of Wilton at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or Alive Hospice.
