Chelsea soccer opens against Hartselle

Sixth-ranked Chelsea opened its boys’ soccer season Thursday in a scoreless Class 5A battle, 0-0, with No. 10 Hartselle. The girls topped Hartselle, 5-2.
The Hartselle boys entered the game off a 3-2 win Monday over No. 5 Albertville, but Chelsea goalkeeper Alex Levinson collected five saves to keep Hartselle from attempting a second upset. Chelsea out shot Hartselle, 19-13, while Hartselle keeper Will Coleman had 7 saves.
Alli Cochran led the Chelsea girls with two goals and two assists, while Iyani Hughes also had two goals and Courtney Huggins added one. Sara Smith and Cheyenne Tompson each had an assist. Rachel Levinson had three saves in the first half and Ashleigh Niven had two stops in the second half. Hartslle scored on a corner kick four minutes into the game and a penalty kick with three minutes remaining.
Chelsea was scheduled to travel to Talladega on Friday, but games were canceled due to rain.
