Oak Mtn. sweeps Lakeshore Shootout

Oak Mountain’s attempt at a 30-win season and three-peat of the Class 6A boys’ soccer title began strong over the weekend, sweeping five games to take the Lakeshore Shootout A Division title.
The Eagles (6-0) poured out five goals in the first half of Saturday’s final at Sports Blast and added two more in the second period to down Hoover, 7-2. Senior forward Chandler Hoffman, who was named the tournament Most Valuable Offensive Player, scored three goals and assisted three goals in the final. He had six goals and five assists in the tournament, bringing his total to eight goals and six assists for the season.
Senior midfielder Stefan Vaziri, who recently signed with Northern Illinois, was named the tournament MVP. Vaziri three assists in the tournament and scored the game-tying goal in the second half against Altamont to help lift the eagles over the Knights, 3-2, to start the day Saturday. Hoffman scored the game-winner with eight minutes to play off an assist from Michael Thrasher.
Second to Hoffman in goals scored in the tournament was Donnie Maciel with four. Adres Aristazabal had two.
The Eagles started the weekend with a 3-1 victory over Huntsville on Friday, followed by a 2-0 win over Prattville in a rematch of last year’s 6A state championship. After beating Altamont to start Saturday, Oak Mountain took down rival Spain Park, 4-1, in the semifinal.
Spain Park (2-2-1) split its Friday games, beating Pinson, 4-1, before losing to Hoover at home, 3-2. The Jaguars tied Enterprise, 2-2, to start play Saturday before losing to Oak Mountain in the semifinal.
Homewood won the B Division title, 2-0, over Cullman. Indian Springs was the only Shelby County team in the B Division. Springs beat Pell City, 2-0, in the opener Friday before tying Fort Payne, 0-0. It opened Saturday with a 4-0 win over Trinity, but fell to Homewood in the semifinal.
Oak Mountain will host Chelsea (0-0-1) Wednesday at 7 p.m.
