The Oak Mountain Middle School dance team took away four first place finishes from competitions last month.
The squad placed first in both the jazz competition and hip-hop competition at the Universal Dance Association State Championship held at Spain Park High School Jan. 10.
Judges also recognized the team for best choreography. In individual competition, eighth-grader Claire Turner won fourth place.
On Jan. 17, Samford University hosted the Alabama Dance and Drill Team Championship. The OMMS team again placed first in the jazz competition and took top honors in the kick competition with the highest scoring routine. The team was also named “All-Around State Champions.” An ensemble group, which included Lacey Cencula, Katie Jenkins, Jordan Laxson, Caitlin Owens and Anna Claire Vawter placed second. Individual recognition went to Haruka Nakai for placing second in the solo division.
