Sophomore Emily Gibson, of the University of Montevallo women’s golf team, finished tied for first in the Gold Division of the Ann Rhoads Shootout hosted by Birmingham-Southern College. The Gold Division consisted of teams from NCAA Division II, Division III and NAIA. Seven Division I squads competed as well, and when ranked against all the competitors, Gibson would have finished tied for third beating 40 D-I golfers.

The Falcons as a team finished fourth, nine strokes behind Gulf South Conference rival the University of West Florida. Gibson, a native of Toronto, led all GSC golfers including last year’s GSC individual winner Natalia Espinosa of West Florida.

UM freshman Emma Breen of Swindon, England also finished ahead of Espinosa as she shot a two round 160 to finish 10th. Sophomore Britney Martin of Fishers, Ind., finished tied for 26th while junior Rachel Shaner of Madison and sophomore Heather Mutton of Dunstable, England finished 37th and 38th, respectively.

The next tournament for the Falcons is March 16-17 at the Samford University Intercollegiate.
