Last year’s runner-up, Rosana de Los Rios won her featured match Wednesday night at the Pelham Racquet Club, 7-6(5), 6-4, over Sophie Ferguson of Australia to advance to the second round of the United States Tennis Association Pro Circuit Women’s $25,000 Challenger.

Rain delayed the start of the tournament again Wednesday, pushing the start time back a half hour. Tuesday’s opening round was completely washed out.

De Los Rios of Paraguay will play Meng Yuan of China in the second round Thursday afternoon. The match will follow the 11 a.m. match on the stadium court between Yurika Sema of Japan and Anna Tatishvili of the Republic of Georgia.

Other highlights from Wedneday’s opening round came when Chi Chi Scholl of the U.S., who was the USTA’s main draw wild card, took out sixth-seed Ksenia Palkina.

Top-seed Patricia Mayr of Austria also advanced to the second round by beating Alexandra Panova of Russia 6-3, 6-1.

Thursday was scheduled to be Kids’ Night, but with rain after looking at the weather forecast, the Pelham Racquet Club decided to postpone Kids Night to another day in the tournament to be announced.
