Thomas Rolland Lucas, 84, of Wilsonville, died at his home March 31, 2009. Mr. Lucas was born in Jefferson County on Sept. 15, 1924.
He moved to Shelby County at a very young age where he has resided since.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Theo Lucas; two brothers and three sisters; and a beloved daughter, Sue Lucas Wilson.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Frances A. Lucas; one daughter, Linda (Gary) Ray of Wilsonville; one son, Thomas R. Lucas Jr. (Ranay) of Alabaster; five granddaughters, Melanie King (Jim) of Maylene, Aubrey Hocutt (William) of Vestavia, Andrea Ray of Vestavia, Nicole and Jackie Ferguson of Alabaster; five great-grandsons, Peyton, Dalton and Braxton King, John Harris and Thomas Hocutt.
Mr. Lucas was employed by Westinghouse Welding of Montevallo for 30 years.
He was an avid fisherman and loved to care for his lawn and flowers.
He was a man who truly loved his family and friends.
He was a member of Enon Baptist church in Montevallo for 50 years, where he was ordained a deacon 32 years ago.
After moving to Wilsonville, he joined the First Baptist Church of Columbiana, where he also served as a deacon.
Visitation was held at the First Baptist Church of Columbiana Monday night April 6, 2009, from 5-8 p.m.
Funeral service was held Tuesday, April 7, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the church. The Rev. Mike Miller and the Rev. Rick Evans officiated.
The men of the Charles Knowles Sunday School class were honorary pallbearers. Mr. Lucas was a faithful member of this class and loved each of these men dearly.
Burial took place in Pinelawn Gardens in Columbiana.
