Chelsea’s city government is trying to do its part to help the American economy get back on its feet.

At the April 7 City Council meeting, the council passed a resolution committing city officials to buying American products whenever possible.

Councilmember Juanita Champion said the council wanted to support American citizens, and the resolution is one way to show that support.

“We feel like with the loss of jobs in the United States that it behooves us to try to employ Americans,” she said.

Champion said the council has talked to department heads to ask them to check to make sure their products are made in America.

“We’re just going to be aware of what products we buy and where they come from,” she said. “Where we can, we will buy American.”
