Chelsea beats Montevallo to close regular season

The Chelsea Hornets enter this week’s Class 5A, Area 8 softball tournament as the No. 3 seed, but come in off two wins to start the week.
Caitlin Bice won an eight0inning pitchers’ duel Tuesday, giving up three hits and striking out six to lead Chelsea to a 1-0 win over Montevallo. Bulldogs’ pitcher Laci Hochstrasser took the loss.
Morgan Pence was 3-for-4 to lead the Hornets and drove in one run, while Johnna Barnes and Bice were each 1-for-3.
Kylie Stansell, Amber Cardwell, Mallory Anderson and Kayla Irwin all reached base for Montevallo.
Chelsea started the week with a 4-1 win over Moody Monday.
Tori Hollis collected the win for the Hornets and was 2-for-4 at the plate, while Kacie Craft was 3-for-4 with a run scored and a RBI. Pence was 2-for-3 with a run, while Alex Osborn had a two-run double and Barnes scored and drove in a run. Moody pitcher Molly Washington had 11 strikeouts.
