AHSAA confirms it will resume games Tuesday

Alabama High School Athletic Association activities will resume Tuesday following the tentative schedule outlined last week. The AHSAA postponed games from Thursday to Monday after the three Huntsville area school systems closed because of H1N1 flu cases at a local school.
The school systems re-opened Monday, as the AHSAA Medical Advisory Board and Central Board of Control agreed it would be safe to resume activities.
“I want to thank our member schools, the Medical Advisory Board, our Central Board leadership, the superintendents of the Huntsville area school systems as well as the State Board of Education and State Department of Health for helping us cope with this challenging situation,” said Savarese.
“While we apologize for the disruption of our original playoff schedule, we made the safe decision for the children of this state and also insured that students at all our member schools would have the opportunity to participate in our post-season athletic events.”
Baseball, softball, golf and soccer playoffs will resume Tuesday. The state track & field championship — all classes — is reset for May 7-9 at Gulf Shores and the Heptathlon/Decathlon reset for May 13-14. All other AHSAA playoff events follow their original schedule.
