Funeral service for Mary “Ellen” Thrasher, age 61, of Columbiana, was at 2 p.m., Sunday, May 3, 2009, at Bolton Funeral Home with the Rev. Edwin King officiating.
Visitation was one hour prior to the service.
Mrs. Thrasher, who passed away on Friday, May 1, 2009, at her home, was born on April 19, 1948 in Tuscaloosa to George Rufus and Virginia Davis Johnston. She grew up in Moundville and moved to the Birmingham area, where she lived for the past 37 years. She was a true definition of strength and an inspiration to all who knew her. She is preceded in death by her parents, George Rufus and Virginia Davis Johnston, brothers George Edwin Johnston and Kenneth Ray Johnston.
She is survived by her loving husband of 39 years; Robert C. “Bob” Thrasher; her devoted daughter, Sarah Ashley Thrasher both of Columbiana; sisters, Betty (Hugh) Kynard of Moundville, Peggy Daniels of Thomasville, Janice (Rod) Folmar of Birmingham; brothers, Robert H. “Bobby” (Carolyn) Johnston, of Tuscaloosa, Dale A. Johnston of Moundville; brother-in-law, Richard (Candace) Thrasher of Columbiana; mother-in-law Christine Thrasher of Heflin and numerous nieces and nephews.
