Gabe Watson, the Hoover man accused of killing his wife while scuba diving on their honeymoon in Australia, has returned to the country to face trial.
Watson, 32, was arrested today at Brisbane International Airport after voluntarily returning to Australia, according to the Australian newspaper The Courier-Mail. He is set to appear in court May 29.
Watson, and his wife, Christina, were married Oct. 11, 2003. Eleven days after the wedding, the newlyweds were on a scuba diving expedition on the Great Barrier Reef when Christina drowned.
Australian Coroner David Glasgow ruled last June that Watson should stand trial for his wife’s murder. Glasgow alleges Watson killed Christina by holding her underwater and cutting off her air supply.
Watson, who has since remarried, has maintained his innocence in connection to Christina’s death.
