Nearly 100 golfers took to the fairways at Ballantrae Golf Course recently for the second-annual Shelby Baptist Medical Center golf tournament benefiting the hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, raising more than $33,000 for the expansion and renovation project that is expected to begin in 2010.

“This tournament means more to the babies of Shelby County than to the golfers,” said Jennifer Philpot, director of development for Shelby Baptist Medical Center. “Thanks to our generous sponsors, we are already purchasing new equipment for our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and we are optimistic that, through continued contributions and charitable donations, we will be able to expand the Unit in the near future.”

David Wilson, Shelby Baptist President and CEO, said such fund-raisers as the golf tournament are vital to the hospital meeting the public’s growing need.

“The $33,000 raised at our tournament will directly benefit this project,” said David Wilson, Shelby Baptist President and CEO. “Shelby Baptist Medical Center is committed to meeting the healthcare needs of our community. As Shelby County and the surrounding counties have grown, the NICU project is critical to the success of that mission.”
