Two die in wrecks near Columbiana, Westover
Two people have died on Shelby County roadways so far this Memorial Day weekend.
An 81-year-old Wilsonville woman died Saturday after a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 280 just outside Westover. Marjorie Nolen was transported to the UAB Hospital, where she died. Nolen was driving a 2003 Toyota Avalon.
The driver of the second vehicle, a 1999 Ford Crown Victoria, Edward Lamirande, 40, of Birmingham and his passenger Kete Hooper, 35, of Atlanta were also injured. They were also taken to UAB for treatment.
On Friday, a Columbiana woman was killed and seven others injured after a wreck on Shelby County 26.
Georgia Ashworth, 48, died in the two-vehicle wreck, which occurred three miles west of Columbiana.
Also injured in the 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier Ashworth was riding in were: Christina Ashworth, 26, of Columbiana; Georgia Budding, 10, of Columbiana; Brooke Edwards, 10, of Clanton; Jessica Fleming, 45, of Clanton; and Willie Poe, 31, of Clanton.
They were taken to local hospitals for treatment.
Charles Booth, 39, and Jordan Booth, 11, were also injured in a 2005 Ford Ranger.
Troopers are still investigating both accidents.
