Former Calera girls’ basketball great Shanavia Dowdell recently received two pieces of hardware at the annual Louisiana Tech Lady Techster Appreciation Banquet.

Dowdell earned the Rebounding Award and the MVP Award after averaging 16.1 points, 9.9 rebounds, 1.8 blocks and 1.2 steals per game as a junior. She also shot 53 percent from the field, 59 percent from the free throw line and 36 percent from the 3-point line.

In early April, Dowdell was named to the Louisiana Sports Writers Association all-state first team

Dowdell recorded a Western Athletic Conference-best 18 double doubles and scored in double figures 29 times, including a career-high 30 points against Western Kentucky.
