University of Montevallo cross country head coach Michael Marquardt announced Wednesday the signing of Kaley Glover and Haley Evans for the Class of 2009.
“We are very excited to add both of these young ladies,” said Marquardt. “They have had outstanding high school careers and ran fast week in and week out. Their consistency is amazing and I cannot wait to see them compete for the University of Montevallo.”
Kaley Glover competed at Beauregard High School in Opelika and will enter as a freshman. She has a personal best time of 19:51 in the 5K which would rank fourth among the all-time top times at Montevallo. She finished 11th at the Alabama State Championship for Class 5A with a time of 20:21, which would also rank in the Top 10 at UM.
Haley Evans prepped at Fairhope High School and will also enter as a freshman. She has a personal best time of 20:25 and finished 33rd at the Class 6A State Championship meet.
“One of the first things you notice with Kaley and Haley is how much they love running and how much they want to improve,” said Marquardt. “They both have high expectations for themselves and I expect both of them to make an immediate impact on our program. Kaley and Haley will be able to come in and compete for individual accomplishments within our conference. But, most importantly they bring us significantly closer to our ultimate team goal, which is having a chance to win a conference championship during their four years at our school.”
Glover and Evans will join a strong group of returning runners as they enter into new territory, the Peach Belt Conference. The Falcons had their best conference finish a season ago at the Gulf South Conference Championships and look to add to that accomplishment this season as new members of the PBC.
