Calera Fire and Rescue will sponsor a community blood drive Thursday, June 18 at Calera Fire Station No. 1 in honor of Fire Chief Tommy Moon, who was recently diagnosed with leukemia.

The drive will be held from 11 a.m.-4 p.m., said Capt. Ryan Tallie. An American Red Cross Bloodmobile will be parked outside the station, 1310 17th Ave.

Donors must be at least 17 years old, weigh 110 pounds and not have donated blood in the last eight weeks. Donors must also bring photo identification. All blood types are needed.

Moon, who is undergoing treatment, is expected to return to work in the coming weeks, Tallie said.
