Two wrecks occurred Wednesday before noon at the intersection of U.S. 280 and County Road 43, said Capt. Ken Burchfield with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.

In the first accident, a large truck heading eastbound on U.S. 280 turned to avoid hitting a stopped car and went over a steep embankment at the intersection.

While sheriff’s deputies were working at the scene, a dump truck, also heading eastbound on U.S. 280, collided with “seven or eight” passenger cars or trucks, said Burchfield.

He said he was unsure how the dump truck managed to run into so many other vehicles.

There were no life-threatening injuries from either wreck.
