Shelby Baptist Medical Center spokesperson April Weaver announced Monday she will seek the Republican nomination for the Alabama House of Representatives District 49 seat.
Weaver hopes to succeed current seatholder Cam Ward, who is vying for State Sen. Hank Erwin’s seat. Erwin is seeking the Republican nomination for lieutenant governor.
“I am excited to announce my candidacy for the Alabama House of Representatives,” Weaver said. “As a lifelong resident of this area, I intend to be a proactive representative of the people of District 49.”
District 49 includes southwestern Shelby County and the northern half of Bibb County.
“My good friend Cam Ward has been an enthusiastic and hardworking representative on behalf of District 49,” Weaver said. “I intend to follow in his footsteps and be the kind of responsive public servant that the people of this district deserve.”
Weaver is a member of the Alabama State Republican Executive Committee, the Bibb County Republican Party and the Shelby County Republican Party. Gov. Bob Riley in 2006 appointed Weaver to the Statewide Healthcare Coordinating Council and the Alabama Child Death Review System. She currently serves as SBMC’s director of business development.
She is married to physician Darrel Weaver, and has one daughter, Holly. The family attends Westwood Baptist Church in Alabaster.
