Chelsea advances to 8U state semifinal

Peyton Golden caught a pop up to second base to leave the tying run on third base and end the game, as Chelsea’s 8-under softball team beat Hoover, 19-8 in the state quarterfinals. Chelsea will face Millbrook in the semifinal at 10:30 a.m. Saturday.
Chelsea pushed its way through the winners’ bracket Friday with a 16-4 win over Mountain Brook and 11-0 win over Monrovia before matching up with Hoover Friday night. Anna Bailey and Riley Coyne each went 3-for-4 and combined for seven RBIs in the win over Mountain Brook, while Kaylee Harris was 3-for-3 with an RBI. Bragen Hughes was 2-for-2 with an RBI and Claire Odom was 2-for-3. Alexandria Dennis was 1-for-3 with an RBI and Morgan Seay had a hit.
In the win over Monrovia, Coyne went 3-for-3 from the plate with an RBI, while Allie Miller was 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Golden also hit 2-for-3 and drove in one run, while Chloe Eldson had a hit and drove in four. Seay was 1-for-2.
Millbrook advanced to the semifinal after beating Oak Mountain, 19-17, Friday night. Oak Mountain will face Hueytown in an elimination game at 9 a.m. The Eagles beat Blount County, 13-1, to advance to the quarterfinal.
Helena also played in the 8-under tournament, but lost its first two games, 1-0 to Hayden and 15-4 to Blount County.
The 8-under final is 3 p.m. Saturday.
In other state tournaments, Helena will face Millbrook in a 6-under elimination game Saturday at noon. In the 12-under tournament, Chelsea will play either North Chilton or Blount County Heat at 9 a.m. Saturday, while Columbiana played Monrovia Red late Friday night in an elimination game.
