Alabaster City Council President Jim McClain, a Republican candidate for the Alabama House of Representatives District 49 seat, launched his campaign Web site Thursday to address issues in the region.

Visitors to mcclainforhouse.com will come across McClain’s plans to address ethics reform by limiting lobbyists’ expenditures on public officials and eliminating PAC-to-PAC transfers of money.

McClain also outlines plans to recruit new business to Alabama and District 49, improve transportation and traffic flow and raise standards for public education.

McClain is one of four candidates vying for the District 49 seat being vacated by Cam Ward of Alabaster. Attorney Christopher Linton of Alabaster, Shelby Baptist Medical Center Spokesperson April Weaver, and Jack Gray of Helena, a member of Helena’s Planning and Zoning Commission, have also publicly announced their candidacies. District 49 includes southwestern Shelby County and north Bibb County.

Ward, who was elected to represent District 49 in 2002 and 2006, is vying for State Sen. Hank Erwin’s seat. Erwin is seeking Alabama’s lieutenant governor seat.
