Former American Idol runner-up and Helena native Bo Bice will host the sixth-annual Armed Forces Poker Run and Silent Auction beginning at 10 a.m. Aug. 8 at the Heart of Dixie Harley Davidson.

Proceeds from the ride go to the Readiness and Family Support Organization, supporting U.S. military troops and their families.

The 60-mile motorcycle ride will travel from Heart of Dixie to the Shriners, the Birmingham Race Course, American Legion Post 107, PC’s Hawg Corral and end at Pub 261.

Volunteer Paula Lane said all the workers and businesses involved are excited to be able to support the troops and their families.

“It’s absolutely wonderful to be able to support them, and they need our support now more than ever,” Lane said. “It’s our way of serving our country, and it’s a way to say thanks to those who give us our freedoms and our rights.”

Following the ride, there will be a meet and greet with Bice, and live entertainment from Five-O.

“We’re so excited Bo is coming down,” Lane said. “He’s homegrown and true-hearted.”

The event will include a silent auction, raffle and best and worst hand prizes.

The last bike will be in by 2 p.m., and the drawing and auction will take place at 2:30 p.m. Barbecue plates will be available for $3.

The cost to ride is $20 per rider and $10 per passenger.
