The city of Hoover won a top award at Take Pride Statewide, an anti-litter conference held at Samford University July 29.

Hoover won for the city’s annual Household Hazardous Waste Day, held each April.

The event’s creator, Hoover employee Sissy Mitchell, was on hand to accept the award with Mayor Tony Petelos and members of the Hoover Beautification Board Litter Committee.

During Household Hazardous Waste Day, the city accepts such waste products as gunpowder, ammunition, prescription medications, car batteries and waste cooking oil, among others.
