Wayne Tarter

Wayne A. Tarter, 84, of Birmingham went to be with the Lord Thursday, July 30, 2009.
Wayne took great pride in serving the United States in World War II, where he was a highly decorated combat veteran. He was the last living member of the Flying Fortress Bomber, the “Bonnie Baby.”
After the war, he continued his education, where he graduated from Tennessee Tech.
After graduating, he began working with Burroughs Corporation, where he retired.
After an early retirement from Burroughs, he began a career in real estate, where he sold real estate as well as taught real estate courses at Greenville Tech.
Wayne was preceded in death by his granddaughter Karianne Tarter.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Billie E. Tarter; sons, Don Tarter and Steve Tarter; daughter, Joy Daugherty; grandchildren, Blake, Betty, Autumn, Anna, Justinn, and Martin; and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation was Sunday, Aug. 2, 2009, from 1-2 p.m. with a Memorial Service that followed at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Southern Heritage Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Disabled American Veterans at dav.org or to Wiregrass Hospice.
