Briarwood falls to Vestavia Hills in season opener

Briarwood Christian opened its 2009 football season with a 38-6 loss at home to Vestavia Hills.

Paul Barber completed 21-of-36 passes for 123 yards with an interception in the loss. Sam Whitaker rushed for 35 yards on seven carries. Cooper Harrington added 30 yards and a touchdown on four carries. Harrington also caught four passes for 46 yards.

The Lions trailed 31-0 at halftime. Harrington scored the Lions’ only touchdown on a 5-yard run in the second half.

The Lions (0-1) host Shelby County next Friday night.
