Evangel Christian successful in season opener

Evangel Christian School opened its 2009 season with a 32-0 shutout Friday night on the road at Shiloh Hills Christian in Kennesaw, Ga.
Hunter Burridge led the Lightning with 176 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns. Jakan Sylestine completed 5-of-7 passes for 39 yards and rushed for another 42 yards as he accounted for two touchdowns. Josh Flanders led the defense with 10 tackles, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.
The Lightning struck quick as Burridge returned the opening kickoff 73 yards for a touchdown. Sylestine’s touchdown pass to Stephen Davis gave Evangel a 14-0 halftime lead.
Burridge added a rushing touchdown and Austin Sullivan returned an interception for a touchdown late in the game. Evangel is on the road at Trinity Christian in Sharspsburg, Ga., next Friday.
