Turnovers and special teams’ mistakes cost Vincent in its Class 2A, Region 7 opener Friday night at home in a 28-20 loss to Hale County.

The Yellow Jackets turned the ball over five times in the game. Vincent fumbled on the opening kickoff and had a snap go over the punter’s head for a safety in the loss.

Vincent coach Dwight Spradley said he’s seen better performances from his team.

“We had about five turnovers and that made it difficult for us,” Spradley said.

Despite the turnovers, Vincent rallied with two touchdowns in the fourth quarter and had a chance to tie the game before fumbling at the Hale County 1-yard line with less than a minute remaining.

“We had a good rally in the fourth quarter,” Spradley said. “We had a chance to go in and tie it up and we fumbled.”

Michael Kelley scored the first Vincent touchdown on a 72-yard run in the first quarter. The Yellow Jackets trailed 21-6 at halftime.

Vincent added a safety in the third quarter and Juwan Rogers added the final two touchdowns in the fourth quarter. Rogers scored on a 5-yard run and a 1-yard run.
