Briarwood Christian senior Paul Barber completed 15-of-23 passes for 139 yards, including a 15-yard touchdown pass to Michael Lathem, to lead the Lions to a 16-14 win.
Briarwood coach Fred Yancey praised Barber for his steady leadership on offense in the win.
“Paul did a nice job for us,” Yancey said. “He didn’t put us in any bad plays.”
Wilson Whorton added a 26-yard field goal and Zeke Walters moved from linebacker to quarterback for a 1-yard sneak for a touchdown in the third quarter to cap the Lions’ scoring.
Yancey said the kicking game was the most important factor in the Briarwood (2-1) win. Whorton’s third-quarter field goal turned out to be the difference in the game.
“I was really pleased with our effort on both sides of the ball,” Yancey said. “Our kicking game was a little bit better.”
