Montevallo offensive explosion leads to win over West Blocton
Montevallo High School senior quarterback Kevin Callender threw four touchdown passes to lead the Bulldogs to a 55-13 win Friday night over West Blocton.
Callender opened the Montevallo scoring with a 80-yard touchdown pass to Brandon Lilly with one minute remaining in the first quarter. Toney Kent scored on a 10-yard rushing touchdown and also had a 7-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. Callender had a 52-yard touchdown pass to Lilly, a 65-yard touchdown pass to Garrius Chappel and another 15-yard touchdown pass to Lilly in the second quarter to give the Bulldogs a 41-6 halftime lead.
Taylor Burr had a 10-yard touchdown run and Darius Fields capped the scoring with a 2-yard touchdown run as time expired for the Bulldogs.
Brett Grey had seven successful point-after attempts in the win. Callender completed 6-of-9 passes for 244 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions. Brandon Lilly had four receptions for 164 yards and three touchdowns.
Montevallo (3-2) hosts LaFayette in a Class 3A, Region 3 game Oct. 2.
