The Evangel Christian School Lightning (4-1) lost their first game of the season Friday night 38-0 to Freedom Academy out of Huntsville.
The outcome wasn’t important. The health Hunter Burridge took center stage as the star running back suffered a neck injury 20 seconds into the third quarter. Team statistician James Brown said Burridge was carried by ambulance Friday night to Children’s Hospital for further evaluation.
“He could move his extremities, but they were tingling,” Brown said.
Freedom racked up 228 yards and 16 first downs, compared to 87 yards and four first downs for Evangel. Evangel faces Resurrection Catholic (Miss.) on Oct. 9.
