Calera group holding clothing giveaway

A Calera group Oct. 10 will be working to bring many of life’s necessities to local families in need.

The Calera Community Acts of Kindness group will be holding a free clothing giveaway from 7 a.m.-3 p.m. Oct. 10 to provide fall and winter clothing for families and individuals who otherwise may not be able to afford it.

“Our nation’s current economy has caused many families and individuals in our community to be without the proper clothing for the approaching fall and winter months,” event organizer Rebecca Krueger wrote in a press release.

The event last year provided winter clothing, coats, shoes, blankets and several other cold-weather necessities to more than 550 people.

Because the event is entirely community driven, organizers are asking Shelby County residents to donate gently used items to the giveaway.

“Together, we can make a difference in helping people not only to meet essential daily needs in this unstable economy, but to work toward a brighter future simply because someone cares,” Krueger wrote.

Area residents can bring donations to the Calera Community Center on U.S. 31 South until 7 p.m. Oct. 9. All items donated will be given away free to those in need during the Oct. 10 event.
