Although it was the eighth week of the season, the Pelham Panthers traveled to Wetumpka for the first out-of-region game of the season and came back with an overtime loss, 27-21.
The Panthers gambled on a fourth-down play in the fourth quarter and it paid off as Dominique Harris gave Pelham a 21-14 lead.
Wetumpka struck back after holding the Panthers on a fourth-and-short, as quarterback Jamal Golden took the ball in from 2-yards out to tie the ballgame, thus sending it into overtime.
In overtime, Pelham went for it on fourth-and-goal from the 1-yard line, and Wetumpka once again stopped the Panthers.
Wetumpka scored on its first possession of overtime on a 10-yard scamper by Golden to take the win.
Offensively for the Panthers (3-5, 3-4 Class 6A, Region 6), Tripp Martin was 13-of-15 for 114 yards and one rushing touchdown, while Ryan Williams and Harris each rushed 12 times for 38 yards.
Defensively, Jake Holland had an interception, returning it 35 yards.
Cameron Haynes had field goals of 22 and 38 yards for the Panthers’ special teams.
