City residents will get an opportunity to meet the nine City Council candidates who have qualified for next month’s municipal election when Calera holds a political forum Nov. 3.

The forum, sponsored by the Calera Chamber of Commerce, will be held at 6 p.m. in the Calera High School auditorium, at 100 Calera Eagle Drive, and will be open to the public.

Current District 1 Councilman Jerry Davis, District 2 Councilman Ernest Montgomery, District 3 Councilman Bobby Joe Phillips, District 4 Councilman David Bradshaw and District 5 Councilman Mike Roberson all qualified for the election.

Calera residents Chris Bunn, Ed Gentry, Eric Snyder and Alan Watts also qualified for the council race.

During the election, voters will cast ballots for six at-large council posts, rather than the five ward representatives who currently compose the council.

The Department of Justice threw out the city’s 2008 election results after the agency ruled Calera’s redistricting plan eliminated the city’s only black voting district.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Nov. 10 at the city’s Community Center on U.S. 31. If necessary, a runoff election will be held Dec. 22.
