Fans of the movie “Twilight” may notice a familiar face visiting the Alabaster area during the next several weeks.

David Trader, a Washington native who portrayed a fisherman in the popular movie, has been visiting family members in Alabaster and Maylene for about two months. While here, Trader has toured several of the area’s offerings, and has attended many local sporting and school-related events.

“My personal assessment of the area in which my family lives and the areas I toured has been most pleasant,” Trader wrote in an e-mail. “The neighborhoods are very nice, the people are nice and the atmosphere is very cordial.”

During his visit, he has attended Montevallo youth football games to watch his grandson, Andrew, and has been to several Alabaster Parks and Recreation events to see his granddaughter, Brittany, who is a cheerleader at city sporting events.

He also attended his son Justin’s promotion at the Birmingham National Guard base, an event Trader said was an “important event in his family.”

“My tours of the area have included downtown Birmingham, Montgomery, Selma and other historic civil rights areas,” Trader wrote. “I have read historic cemetery signs, historic coal mine signs and other areas of interest, such as the American Village in Montevallo.”

In addition to “Twilight,” Trader also has appeared in many other movies, commercials and television shows, including NBC and TBS series and movies “Maverick,” “The Hunted” and “Zero Effect.”

Trader said he has enjoyed dining at Shelby County eateries, like Full Moon Barbecue in Alabaster and The Depot in Helena. The actor said he planned to tour the area for about two more weeks before resuming his trip across the country.
