Oak Mountain High School didn’t have much riding on the outcome, but a 14-7 win over Paul Bryant in overtime Friday night at Heardmont Park was a sweet way for the Eagles’ seniors to end their career.
Sophomore quarterback Paul Angel completed a 5-yard touchdown pass to Ross Ware in overtime as the Eagles (4-6) took the lead on their first possession. Oak Mountain sacked the Paul Bryant quarterback on fourth down to clinch the victory.
“It was a great way for our seniors to go out,” said Oak Mountain head coach Jeff Harris. “It was also a great way for our underclassmen to head into the offseason.”
Harris said Ware’s touchdown reception on the Eagles’ first possession in overtime was huge.
“We had already told the kids we needed a touchdown when Paul Bryant won the (coin toss),” Harris said. “We wound up getting it in there.”
Bradley Bostick scored the Eagles’ first touchdown on a 7-yard run in the second quarter. Ryan Hennesy added both extra points in the win.
