A few Shelby County high schools changed football regions and basketball areas, but no team moved up or down a classification in the 2010-2012 Alabama High School Athletic Association realignment, which was released Wednesday.
The school closest to changing classification was Shelby County High School in Columbiana, which is currently the smallest Class 5A school in the state and is seven students above the cutoff for Class 4A.
There were a few moves by Shelby County football teams. Shelby County, Chelsea and Briarwood Christian will be part of Class 5A, Region 5, but will face many of the same schools they currently play in Region 4. The only addition to the region is Pinson Valley, which is dropping from Class 6A.
Montevallo will move to Class 3A, Region 4, where the Bulldogs will join Aliceville, Gordo, Greensboro, Hale County, Northside, Sipsey Valley and Sumter County. Vincent will move to Class 2A, Region 5, where the Yellow Jackets will join American Christian, Billingsley, Central-Hayneville, Francis Marion, Isabella, R.C. Hatch and Thorsby.
The Yellow Jackets will face Altamont, Fultondale, Holy Family and Victory Christian in Class 2A, Area 10 basketball play. Montevallo will face Greensboro, Hale County and Northside in Class 3A, Area 7 basketball.
