A group of University of Alabama alumni will be cheering on their football team while working to raise money for local students during a Nov. 19 pep rally.

The Shelby County chapter of the University of Alabama Alumni Association will host its first Beat Auburn Pep Rally at Jim N’ Nick’s in Alabaster from 6-8 p.m.

During the pep rally, the restaurant will donate 10 percent of its food and drink sales to the association’s scholarship fund, which will be used to help send Shelby County students to the university.

The Beveled Edge will hold a silent auction for several pieces of Alabama artwork, and Bama Fever will be selling game day essentials, said Lori Stamper, a member of the association’s executive committee.

“We have been raising money to help fund scholarships, and our goal is to one day fund a full scholarship,” Stamper said. “Jim N’ Nick’s is basically sponsoring this event for us. They have been great.

“It looks like the weather is going to be great for us,” she added.

Former Crimson Tide player and Pelham native Tyler Watts and Alabama sports announcer Chris Stewart will be signing autographs and chatting with fans during the event. Big Al will also be on hand to take pictures with local fans, as will a few other former players, Stamper explained.

“Jim N’ Nick’s will be handing out free samples, and they will be having drink specials during the whole event,” Stamper said. “It’s really going to be a fun time.”
