A Nov. 23 three-car wreck on Alabama 119 in Montevallo left one University of Montevallo student dead and sent four others to the hospital.
Madison native Amy K. Elliott, an 18-year-old freshman and elementary education major at the University of Montevallo, was pronounced dead at the scene after the wreck. As of Nov. 24, the incident was being investigated by the Shelby County Traffic Homicide Task Force, which is composed of investigators from several county law enforcement agencies.
The wreck happened in the northbound lane of Alabama 119 shortly before 7 p.m., and involved three vehicles.
Following the crash, four other University of Montevallo students were transported to the hospital, where at least two remained Nov. 24. Also injured in the wreck were Phenix City resident Logan Arrowood, Eonna Chambers, of Birmingham, and Brewton residents Joseph and Stephen Billy.
“We have been getting conflicting reports of the other students’ conditions this morning, so I am not sure what their statuses are this morning,” said University of Montevallo Director of Public Relations Cynthia Shackleford.
The university will hold a memorial service for Elliott at 4:30 p.m. Nov. 30 in front of Tutwiler Hall.
“The counseling and housing staff have been on campus since about 2 a.m. (Nov. 24), and they will be available any time for students who need them,” Shackleford said.
