One dead, one injured in Dec. 8 wreck in Alabaster

A Dec. 8 two-vehicle wreck on U.S. 31 in Alabaster left one person dead and sent another to the hospital, according to reports from the Alabaster Police Department.

The wreck happened at about 6:30 p.m. near the Saginaw Pipe company when a minivan carrying two people struck the back of an 18-wheeler.

After the wreck, emergency crews transported the van’s driver and passenger to UAB Hospital, where the passenger was later pronounced dead.

As of Dec. 9, the driver remained in the hospital. Police had not released the victims’ names, or the driver’s condition.

Police closed U.S. 31 for about an hour, as they cleared the wreck, said Alabaster Police Department Deputy Chief Curtis Rigney. The wreck remains under the investigation of the Alabaster Police Department.
