A group of Thompson High School students helped bring Christmas cheer to those facing tough economic times.

The school’s National Junior Honor Society transformed the Thompson High School cafeteria into a free store Dec. 12, as they gave away dozens of clothing items to area families in need.

Thompson students collected and donated the clothing items for several days before the event, and sorted and organized the items by size in preparation for the giveaway. Items donated included adult, youth, children and baby clothing, and shoes, coats and other accessories.

The giveaway drew a “large turnout,” according to Cindy Warner, public relations supervisor for Shelby County Schools.

Students donated everything not taken during the event to Hanna Home.
