Benjamin Blount Peete, Sr., 76, went to be with the Lord Dec. 15, 2009, after a lengthy illness.
Mr. Peete, a native of Underwood, was a graduate of Montevallo High School.
After serving the United States Army during the Korean conflict, he went on to attend Auburn University where he received a degree in Horticulture.
Ben worked for 37 years as a mail carrier in Montevallo. Through his life’s journey, he never met a stranger. He was a devoted father, grandfather and friend.
His great passion was his garden where he loved to spend his time.
Ben’s love for flowers and people was only surpassed by his love for Christ. A life-long member of Underwood Baptist Church, Ben served as a deacon for over 40 years.
He is survived by his wife of fifty years, Elizabeth “Bobbie” Peete as well as his sons, Ben (Lynette), Bob (Tatiana), and Bert (Sherri). He was a beloved “Poppy” to Jessie, Rachel, Alex, Loey, Lyric, Neal, and Sara. He also leaves two sisters, Lola Newsom (Bill) and Tommie Langston (Tom).
Great appreciation is expressed to Central Alabama Oncology and the T.O.U.C.H. support group.
Visitation will be held Friday, Dec. 18, 2009 from 6-8 p.m. at Rockco Funeral Home Chapel Montevallo.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 19, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at Rockco Funeral Home Montevallo. Burial will follow at Montevallo Cemetery. Rev. David Reed officiating.
