We were happy to see Alabaster officials finding ways to get city information out to even more residents by establishing Facebook and Twitter pages.

Facebook and Twitter are two of the largest social networking sites on the Internet, and it’s important for Shelby County’s cities and towns to find ways to make those sites work to their advantage.

More and more people turn to cyberspace to plan their lives and find important information, and Alabaster officials are working to make it more convenient for residents to find what they need to know.

Since people are constantly linked to the Internet through computers and smartphones, Alabaster is a step ahead when it comes to connecting to residents.

Some other cities in the county, such as Calera, have already made the jump to Facebook and Twitter.

We encourage more Shelby County municipalities to consider using Facebook, Twitter and other popular social networking sites.

Finding ways to be more open and accessible for residents should be the No. 1 goal of any government.
