Bertha Nell Barnes, age 85, of Shelby passed away Friday, Jan. 8, 2010. A funeral service was held Monday, Jan. 11, at Bolton Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Brother Paul McDonald and Brother William Moor officiated. Burial followed at Old Shelby Cemetery. Visitation was Sunday, Jan. 10, 2010, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Barnes was born Sept. 17, 1924, in Talladega County. She was a member of the Shelby Church of God for many years.
Her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great -great-grandchildren were her greatest joy. Nell loved going to church, babysitting children of friends and family and collecting frog figurines.
She was preceded in death by her husband, David Daniel Barnes, and two sons, Edward Barnes and Don Barnes.
She is survived by one brother, John Hill (Pat) Chappell of Adamsville; daughters, Betty (Kenneth) Pierce of Russellville, Deborah (Pruett) Hugg of Alvin, Texas, and Glenda Barnes of Shelby; sons, Terrell (Mary) Barnes of Lawrenceburg, Tenn., Mike (Renee) Barnes of Shelby, and Randall (Jamie) Barnes of Columbiana; daughter-in-law, Kathy Barnes of Columbiana; grandchildren, Angie Brandenburg, Jason Barnes, Josh Barnes, Donnie Barnes, Bobby Barnes, Tara Shelton, Randy Hugg, Jila Pereida, Amee Stoneman, Stephanie Barnes, Josh Howton, Davey Barnes and Owen Barnes; 23 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
