Thompson tops Hoover for first area win

The Thompson High School boys’ basketball team picked up its first Class 6A, Area 10 victory of the season with a 67-53 win Jan. 15 at Hoover.

Kenny Johnson led the Warriors (9-14, 1-6 in Class 6A, Area 10) with 21 points. Demarcus Threatt added 14 points.

Shelby County 70, Chelsea 55

Tyler Madison led the Wildcats (13-4, 3-1 in Class 5A, Area 8) with 20 points and nine rebounds. Jordan Simon added 18 points. Ty Lollar chipped in 17 points.

D.D. Washington led Chelsea (8-14, 0-5 in Class 5A, Area 8) with 14 points. Jake Ganus added 11 points and Brandon Horton chipped in 10 points.

John Carroll 56, Briarwood Christian 42

Chad Davis led the Lions (10-11, 1-3 in Class 5A, Area 8) with 10 points.

Altamont 48, Indian Springs 26

Charlie Simpson led Indian Springs with 12 points.

Westminster 61, St. Bernard 42

Jeffrey Stanford led the Knights (3-16, 2-7 in Class 1A, Area 9) with 27 points. Jake Doggett added 17 points.

Cornerstone Christian 66, Enterprise Prep 21

J.V. McKinney led the Chargers (15-0) with 17 points. Colton Wingard added 11 points and Stephen Bulger chipped in 10 points.

Coosa Valley 58, Ashford Academy 43

Gage Holmes led the Rebels (9-8, 7-5 in AISA Class 1A, Region 1) with 28 points. Zaid Kayyali added 19 points and 10 rebounds.

Hope Christian 51, New Life Christian 27

Adam Gurley led the Eagles (8-6, 7-4 in NCSC) with 16 points. Caleb Douglas and Stephen Bynum added nine points each.

GIRLS

Hoover 76, Thompson 14

Asia Anchrum led the Warriors (6-14, 2-5 in Class 6A, Area 10) with three points.

Briarwood Christian 43, John Carroll 41

Laura Gilbert led the Lions (10-9, 4-0 in Class 5A, Area 8) with 12 points.

Montevallo 63, LAMP 42

Amber Cardwell led the Bulldogs with 25 points and nine rebounds. Shanise Hudson nearly finished with a quadrouple-double, as she posted 17 points, eight rebounds, nine assists and 14 steals. Savanna Smith added 11 points and three assists.

Cornerstone Christian 79, Enterprise Prep 34

Nichole Davis led the Chargers (13-1, 11-1 in AISA Class 1A, Region 1) with 25 points. Kailey Goodwin and Chelsey Dunnaway chipped in 16 points each.

Coosa Valley 43, Ashford Academy 41

Lauren Archer and Jordan Smiley led the Rebels (8-7, 6-4 in AISA Class 1A, Region 1) with 11 points each.

Evangel Christian 58, Cathedral Academy 4

Rainey Ketcham led the Lightning (11-0, 9-0 in ACSC) with 12 points and six assists. Taylor Grammer added 11 points. Abby Letson chipped in nine points and seven rebounds. Rachel Letson finished with eight points.
