Kingwood, Cornerstone girls advance to region title games

The Kingwood Christian School and Cornerstone Christian School girls’ basketball teams each advanced to the Alabama Independent Schools Association region tournament championship games with semifinal wins Feb. 5.
Kingwood Christian 39, Tuscaloosa Academy 30
Lauren Rozof led the Lions (16-6) with 20 points and 14 rebounds in the semifinals of the AISA Class 3A, Region 2 tournament at Alabama Southern Community College in Monroeville. Whitney Gillespie added 13 points.
Kingwood, which qualified for the Elite Eight tournament next week with the victory, will face Bessemer Academy in the Region 2 championship game Feb. 6 at 2 p.m.
Cornerstone Christian 43, Chambers Academy 37
Chelsey Dunnaway and Destiny Dillard led the Chargers (18-3) with nine points each in the semifinals of the AISA Class 1A, Region 1 tournament at Southern Union Community College in Wadley. Dunnaway finished with a team-high seven rebounds.
Jana Armstrong and Kailey Goodwin added seven points each and Nichole Davis added six points.
Cornerstone will face Abbeville Christian in the Region 1 championship game Feb. 6 at 1 p.m.
The Cornerstone Christian boys also advanced to the AISA Class 1A, Region 1 championship with a 64-59 win over Coosa Valley Academy in the semifinals. The Chargers will face Abbeville Christian in the boys’ championship game Feb. 6 at 2:30 p.m.
John Bullen led the Rebels with 20 points. Gage Holmes added 14 points and Sam Bullard chipped in 13 points.
