When word spread that former Shelby County Sheriff Buddy Glasgow had died, it wasn’t hard to find people to talk about his legacy.

Current Sheriff Chris Curry, who credited Glasgow with bringing him into the sheriff’s department as a reserve deputy, spoke about Glasgow’s hard work during the 1970s-1980s, a time when Shelby County boomed.

“He had a great responsibility, and he did a great job with it,” Curry said.

During the 11 years Glasgow was sheriff, he worked hard to keep the people around him safe.

He did the same when he was in the U.S. Army, the Alabaster Police Department and after he was sheriff, when he served as the Calera Police Chief.

We appreciate the time Glasgow spent serving his county and his country.

We know that two families — Glasgow’s own family and his law enforcement family — will continue to mourn his loss. So will we.

The Glasgow tradition of public service continues on, even now, with Buddy Glasgow’s son, Tim, working as a lieutenant at the Alabaster Police Department.

When it comes to Buddy Glasgow, Bobby Joe Seales summed it all up simply and beautifully.

“Buddy’s legacy was that he was always good, and kind, and friendly, and helpful to people while he served as sheriff of Shelby County,” Seales said.

“When he lived in Alabaster, he was a good policeman, did his job and did it very well.”
