Chelsea goalkeeper signs scholarship with BSC

Chelsea High School senior goalkeeper Alex Levinson signed a men’s soccer scholarship with Birmingham-Southern College, BSC coach Preston Goldfarb announced Feb. 18.
Levinson is a four-year letter-winner in goal for coach Lee Miller at Chelsea High School. Levinson, who was named the Hornets’ most valuable player in 2008 and 2009, helped his team win Metro Tournament championships in 2007 and 2009. He was named to the 2009 Alabama Sports Writers Association all-state team and the 2009 all-star North squad. Levinson has played club soccer for Birmingham United Soccer’s (BUSA) Elite Team, which was 2008-09 Division 1 Alabama state champions and also with BUSA’s U.S. Soccer Development Academy teams.
Levinson was also named the 2005-06 “Student of the Year,” and is a member of the Beta Club, Mu Alpha Theta, Chelsea Ambassadors, Youth Leadership Shelby County , Chelsea Leadership, and was vice president of the Peer Helper Organization. Levinson, who was crowned the school’s Homecoming King, is also the senior class vice president at Chelsea.
Levinson plans to major in education with a Science minor at BSC, where he will begin classes in the fall of 2010.
